The "J" Family, Lodi & Valley Springs, CA

This was such a fun shoot that I had not blogged about (my bad!!!). Anyways, the J family has 3 very adorable girls, a set of twins and the younger sister. We did the shoot at their home in Valley Springs, CA. It was a lovely day, not too hot and hardly any wind. They have horses at their home, so we HAD to include them. Here they are!

The landscapes of California

This is going to be a lot of blog posts in the next few months. This past summer (actually really the last 2 months) I have been doing a lot of travel for work. Been down as far as LA, back up to Lodi and to the coast. I have a lot of landscapes to show off to you all. But here is just a few that I took at Woodward Lake, just east of Oakdale, CA.

Remember when you are out and about, check out what is around you. It's amazing how much of the worlds natural beauty we miss because we are so busy in our daily lives.

I want to win!!!

Who doesn't want to win something sometime? Well right now I have entered a contest to win a new camera. I'm always entering to win stuff because my business is totally self funded. I do not have any loans or anything like that out, so to upgrade equipment or to get anything new, its on me to do it. Winning a new camera would be amazing for me. Then I can do even more than what I can do now. Like indoor photography.

My friends over at SnapKnot photography are giving away a D800 or a 5D Mark III. I really would love to have the D800. For those that don't know I shoot with a D3100. I love my camera, but I love what the D800 can do that mine cannot do. There is more focus points, low light photos turn out so much better, not to mention its a full frame camera where the D3100 is a crop. Drool!!

So here is to hoping and praying that I get the D800! Big thanks to the SnapKnot wedding photography directory for offering this great camera giveaway!

Becoming a Mom!

This past weekend I had the pleasure of meeting Miss R. She is 35 weeks pregnant with her first child. It is such a special time when you have your first child growing in you. So many thoughts and wonders are in your head. She called me to photograph her, while pregnant with her child.

I had a fantastic time photographing this couple. They are very sweet and I cannot wait to meet little baby "J" when she comes into this world.

Here is my favorite shot from this shoot, however it was hard to choose because there was several that I just love.

I felt that there was just so much love in this shot. Just a happy day in all too. Congrats to you both!!!

This is my entry in the www.rocktheshotforum.com for April's photo challenge Motherhood. What speaks more about motherhood than someone embarking on it for the first time! See more of my photos from this shoot on my Facebook page!

Playing with flowers

I have been quiet of late because we have been very busy. Out shooting, and learning new skills. I just got back from Las Vegas, NV, and we will have more pictures to show from there soon. I took over 2,000 pictures in a week, so there is a lot to go through and decide what I like, dislike ect.

But tonight's picture is a throwback from almost a year ago. For my birthday last year we went to San Francisco and went to the Golden Gate Park. If you have never been there, and are in the area, I highly suggest you go. If you love flowers, its a must go to place.

I was in the Conservatory of Flowers while I was there and was taking all kinds of pictures of flowers that is not normally seen in my small area of California. I took this picture of one of the many orchids they have there.

The name of this kind of orchid is Paph. Robinianum, AKA Golden Gate Orchid. Very fitting name sense I was at the Golden Gate park. I am submitting this into the March Photo Challenge at www.rocktheshotforum.com .

Let me know what you think of this image and stay tuned for Las Vegas!

Family photos

Who doesn't love a good family photo shoot? Most likely, the families who are having their pictures taken. I know as a mom, it is so stressful to get all the kids, dress, cleaned and ready to go. Not to mention everyone in a good mood. You want the kids and hubby to look great so the pictures will turn out great. And you stress even more if you little darlings are cranky, teething or something.

As the photographer, you know this is going to go on. When your shooting families, you need to be flexible. You need to be ready at all times to get that shot, no matter it be a serious shot or a silly one. You need to have the ability to get everyone to relax and laugh.

This last weekend I had the chance to test out my skills on a family. And it was a test. Not because of the family, but because of the weather. The day started off great. Stop by the store to pick up some balloons for the shoot, and off to go to the location. Once there, we meet up with the family and go set up. First up, birthday pictures.

See now, she was to be sitting in the cute chair and have the balloons behind her. And I did get a few of those, but this shot was the best. Because it show her personality with the balloons. Miss R loves balloons and all she wanted to do was to play with them.

Next up, trying to get an Easter shot. I brought along a hat, gloves, bunny and eggs all for props. We only managed to get the bunny out and Miss R is running thru the field with the bunny. So darling! I asked her if I could please take her picture with the bunny and this is the shot she gave me.

Right after this, we noticed it was starting to rain. Which is NEVER a good thing when you are doing a on location shoot that is out doors. We were lucky to be at a local winery, and so we threw all the props in the cars and went into the Winery. Miss R wanted so bad to go out and play in the rain. You can see it in her face here:

Once it finally let up on the rain, we were able to go back outside and shoot some more. However all the shots that I had planned for had to be thrown out, because everything was just too wet. Time for plan B. Stand up shots only. Except for one. The family shot. And to me, this shot was the best one of the day.

I enjoyed so much working with this family. I'm looking forward to many more sessions with them. Their ability to be flexible along with mine made what could have been a very stressful day into a fun day, no matter what happened!

Be sure to check out our website if you are looking for some pictures like these. Or any other picture needs you may have. We will be leaving soon on a trip to Las Vegas. Stay tuned to all of the photos we will be having coming back from there!

XOXO,
R

A bit of Sunday fun!

The past week I spent in front of a computer, learning more on photography. Next week I will be doing the same, however I will be learning more on Photoshop. I have a pretty good idea on Lightroom but have not spent anytime in Photoshop. I think because I have found it overwhelming. Anyways, sense I have spent so much time in front of a computer learning, not shooting, my wonderful husband took me out to take pictures.

Off we went to a few local spots. A few wineries and our local Lake. At one of the wineries I ended up spending about 2 hours there just taking a bunch of pictures. The truck photo below I fell in love with. The combination of old and new, the red just popped off the screen with the surrounding areas.

See how cool it looks? The lights and the shadows just play how I wanted it to look. I am submitting this to Rock the Shot for their monthly contest at www.rocktheshotforum.com.

I hope everyone had an amazing weekend. I'll try to upload more from my shoot today during the week when I have time between classes.

Launching!

Hi all,

It has been my full intention upon starting this blog that I would be on here frequently. However, I kind of forgot. Now that I'm working harder than ever, have now LAUNCHED my business, I will be better about being on this blog and updating of the different, fun projects we are doing. First things first... We are now a business, not just a hobby. R. Delp Photography has it's own website.

I have been working hard on building up my portfolio  I have done quite a few photo shoots in the last few months. Most recently, Mr. E. He was not having the Easter pictures his mommy wanted, so we went to the park and played. And eventually he started to enjoy himself and let me get a few good shots in.

I just finished a week long class on how to take better photos. I cannot wait to get out there and take pictures to test out what I have learned. I am always looking for ways I can improve and take my photos to the next step!

I am always looking for new clients and new locations to shoot. Please feel free to visit our website or visit our Facebook Fan Page. Any ideas of what I should post next on what I am shooting? Or suggested locations?
